USS Growler (SSG-577) DANFS
Page One of Two
The Growler is a submarine unlike any other on display n the United States. She was built as a strategic missile boat, carrying the Regulus II sea-to-surface missile. Growler served the Navy for only six years, making nine deterrent patrols. She is on display via guided tours (editor's note: Thanks for the heated waiting area!) and your tour begins in one of the missile hangars. Seated where a nuclear missile rested brings a new perspective to visiting this impressive memorial ship. The Growler lies across the pier from USS Intrepid (CV-11) and shares her berth with USS Edson (DD-946).
